Learn to Skate

As part of our proud tradition in ice sports, the Winnipeg Winter Club offers skating lessons providing a personalized and supportive environment for skaters of all ages and abilities. Led by experienced instructors, lessons focus on building strong foundational skills, confidence, having fun and a lifelong love of skating.

Robyn Ward

Robyn Ward

Robyn is a Regional Skate Canada Coach with certification as an NCCP CanSkate Instructor and trained Regional Coach. As a competitive figure skater, she represented Team Manitoba from 2012 to 2022. Robyn’s experience extends to performance-based skating, earning recognition as the Sun Valley Open Live Choice Award Winner in 2022. With additional training in dance disciplines such as ballet, she brings artistry and athleticism together in her coaching.

Debbie Synkiw

Debbie Synkiw

Debbie brings 40 years of coaching experience, including 27 years at the Winnipeg Winter Club. Originally from a figure skating background, she now specializes in power skating, where her patient and encouraging style has helped skaters of all ages and levels succeed. Debbie emphasizes strong fundamentals and advances her students through proper body mechanics, edge control, and muscle memory. In addition to her extensive coaching experience, she also holds a Bachelor of Education degree.

Roni Swischuk

Roni Swischuk

Roni is a Skate Canada National Coach with extensive experience working with skaters of all levels. She holds NCCP Level 3 certification in singles, as well as Level 3 technical training in pairs and synchronized skating. Her well-rounded background allows her to coach both figure skating and power skating, providing athletes with the technical foundation and performance skills needed to thrive on the ice.

Tenneile Sigfusson

Tenneile Sigfusson

With more than 15 years of coaching experience, Tenneile is passionate about helping skaters develop their skills and elevate their performance, whether in power skating or recreational figure skating. A former senior competitive figure skater, Tenneile competed at the Skate Canada Challenge and earned a silver medal at the Arctic Winter Games. She trained at the prestigious Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton and is NCCP Provincial Coach Trained. Today, she brings her expertise and enthusiasm to the ice, focusing on building both skill and confidence in every student while fostering a lifelong love of skating.

Danae Russell

Danae Russell

Danae began skating at the age of two and went on to compete for 16 years, achieving her Gold level tests in freeskate, skills, and dance. A six-time Provincial Champion, she qualified for the Skate Canada Challenge seven consecutive years. Since 2017, Danae has been coaching skaters of all ages and abilities, sharing her passion for the sport while specializing in jumps, spins, and choreography. She is part of a unique family coaching team alongside her mother and sister, offering a supportive and dynamic environment for skaters. Outside the rink, Danae recently completed her Bachelor of Nursing through RRC Polytech and is pursuing a career in pediatric nursing. She continues to skate recreationally and is committed to inspiring a lifelong love of skating in her students.

Sarah Low-Ying

Sarah Low-Ying

With over 25 years of coaching experience, Sarah has worked with skaters of all levels in both figure skating and power skating. She holds NCCP Level 2 certification (Provincial Coach), NCCP Level 3 Theory and Technical Singles (National Coach Trained), and is Power Skate and Special Olympics Trained. Sarah is also a Respect in Sport Certified coach, a Star 1–5 Assessor, and a Quadruple Gold Test skater. As a former Junior Competitive skater at the Divisional level, she brings both technical expertise and a deep passion for the sport to her athletes.

Cali Boychuk

Cali Boychuk

Cali is a figure skating and Learn to Skate coach with 15 years of competitive experience. She represented Team Manitoba from 2018 to 2024, competed at Skate Canada Challenge, and earned a gold medal at the Manitoba Games. As an NCCP Certified Coach and Skate Canada Regional and CanSkate Coach in Training, Cali is eager to pass along the knowledge and passion that shaped her own journey. Now pursuing a degree in engineering at the University of Manitoba, she is committed to helping the next generation of skaters develop their skills and love for the sport.
