About Our Staff
Pal Chawla
Pal is a former
International Competitor from Punjab, India. He moved to Canada in 1967 to
become a Badminton Professional. An NCCP Level 4 Certified Coach he has
been at the Winnipeg Winter Club since 1971.
Pal was a member of the winning Indian Team at the Asian Championships under 21
competition in 1962. He was the Assistant Coach for the Canadian Badminton
Team at the All England Championship in 1991 and the 1998 Canadian Team at the
Thomas and Uber Cup in the Philippines.
As a Head Coach he took Team Saskatchewan to the 1971 Canada Winter Games and in
1975 and 1999 the Manitoba Team. He also won Silver Medal in Men's Singles
in 1971 at the Canada Winter Games playing as for team Saskatchewan.
Pal won Bronze Medal in Men's Doubles at the World Masters Games in the 45+
category in Denmark in 1989.
Pal's experience brings testament to the success of the Badminton Programs at
the Winnipeg Winter Club.
Additional Achievements and Awards:
- 2007 Coaching Manitoba Excellence Awards: Recognizing a history of dedication
to coaching in Manitoba, Pal received an award of recognition for committment to
coaching in Manitoba for over 30 years at a brunch reception held at the Hilton
Suites Hotel Airport on Saturday, April 14, 2007
Badminton Assistants:
Anil Kaul
- Competed for Canada as a member of the National Team for 10 years
- Two time National Men's Doubles Champion
- Three time National Mixed Doubles Champion
- Represented Canada at two Summer Olympic Games
- Silver medallist at the 1990 Commonwealth Games
- Represented Canada at the 1991 Pan Am Games, Gold in Men's Doubles and Silver in
Mixed Doubles.
- In 1991 reached the final 16 of the World Championship in Mixed Doubles
Janet Harrison
Janet subs as a school physical education teacher and takes a keen interest in
racquet sports. She specializes in developing hand eye coordination skills
in young children by combining fun and practical activities.
Tasia Lightly
Tasia Lightly is a NCCP Level 2 certified coach. She has represented
Manitoba at the 2007 Canada Winter Games and the 2007 Western Canadian Summer
Games. She has coached summer camps for Badminton Manitoba and University
of Manitoba.
